The Process

It is just that ‘a process’. I remember when we moved back from Haiti in 2006 I asked Don “are we putting down roots or are we not?” At that time I still needed to know where I belonged, where we would make memories and where home was. So did we? Yes and No. Everywhere we live we make a home and we make memories and I am learning to be okay with ’the process.’ We have moved two times since that conversation and are in the process of our third move. Roots? No, no way. We have always known that our hearts are in Haiti and our roots will be put down once we get there. Right now I am surrounded by tubs. Tubs of memories, school work, pictures, really 29 years of marriage and the raising of our family are all in tubs. I did make sure that at least they were colorful tubs! I feel the containers can reflect the joy of the years of memories that the contents reflect.

The last few months have been a hurricane of fund raising and decision making, with some family fun mixed in. We have been BLESSED by so many people that want to partner with us in our work in Haiti. That partnership is so very encouraging to us! Thank you for getting the vision and being so excited with and for us.
Four midwifes from New Life International School of Midwifery in the Philippines will be joining our
efforts to open up Heartline’s birth center this fall. These are American women that Beth and I met while we were doing an internship. Like every thing that Heartline has undertaken, we want to take on this new project slowly and make sure it is done properly and with a vision for the future. Before long we will be providing a safe environment for our women to have their babies.

We are so happy that Cory Moxon will be joining our family in Haiti as our teacher. The boys will be home schooling with Cory’s help. What an answer to prayer she is!

As I type this our departure date has yet to be set. Oh how we wish we could buy the tickets on be on our way! What is holding us up? We have a few things yet to sell and Fund raising to finish up. We are planning that the boy’s, Cory and I will leave for Haiti the second week of September while Don stays back to ‘close everything down and tie up loose ends’ and joins us in October. Then we will put down our roots and make memories there. I do not know of a time when we have felt so blessed by this calling! Insane as it might sound, We cannot wait to serve Him who has called us, there in Haiti.

Blessings, Don and Lisa, Shane, Trent and Joey Buxman

One of the reasons for this trip to Haiti was to look for a house to rent in Port Au Prince. We did find a home in a neighborhood near the women's center that has enough rooms for our family and quests. But.... Haitian style or what ever you want to call it--leaves me speechless! Here is Tara standing in the master bedrooms bathroom 'tub'. It is what I call watermelon pink tile. I bet those stairs are slippery when wet.. think about it.

Oh well all in all this house would work great for us pick bathroom included. : )

John Mchoul and Jaeda waiting for dinner. The movie Twilight was playing on the T. V. in french with English subtitles--I thought that was great!

Trip to Haiti April first to sixth

Another quick trip to Haiti this time I was blessed to have my daughter Jaeda travel with me. Jaeda had not been to Haiti in seven years. It was so good to have her to see where we will be working and just what we will be doing. We had a wicked wonderful time!

Life in Haiti is hard. Not just for those who were born and raised there and cannot leave, but for those who, because of God's call choose to live there. I hurt for my friends there today, they are hurting. They are there to serve and help, provide a little heaven on earth for those who live in hell on earth. The hell sometimes effects them. Pray for those in Haiti, they need it.

Influenza B

"did you get a flu shot"? Ah... no. when you have lived in a third world country your since of concern over sickness changes. I am living right now in the USA where I can call 911, take my child to the family Dr. or the local urgent care, Flu shot? No thought of it. I think or malaria, typhoid fever or Dengue fever, the biggies.
So Trent got the flu, I took the him to the local urgent care, kept him home from school, cleaned house like crazy, with the result being - only one other family member got the bug.

Heartline Ministry sewing program

The sewing program in Port Au Prince provides women with a practical skill to provide an income for their family. Empowering women to no longer have to give up the children for adoption. One of the out growths of this is Haiti made Purse Parties. Purses, laptop, book bags are sold at in home parties. These bags are made by the women in the program and the proceeds from the sell are returned to the women and the program. The are made from donated 'scrapes' and rice bags, sugar bags so they are "green".
My sister Marcie Kasper recently hosted a Purse Party at her home in Colorado Springs. She had a room full of her dear friends. These women not only loved the purses but were so enthusiastic about changing a women in Haiti's life!
If you would like to know more about the purses, how to purchase one or host a party just go to the Heartline ministries link!
